Please note just how many of these alleged “confessions” and “voluntary testimonials” [see above] have been extracted from Soviet files and docs, the Nuremberg tribunal, and United States military files. A discerning scholar knows that even though these types of docs are valuable in many ways, they are nevertheless quite problematic when it comes to reliability and honesty. It may also be important to mention that the “confessions” of both Gerstein (note II) and Hoess (note III) have been utterly debunked. Hoess’s confession was in English and Gerstein’s statement, whatever it really may have been as it evolved over time, is impossible.
Just because a Pakistani man admits to being a “terrorist” while interned at Gitmo does not mean that he’s really a terrorist. Did he say this in order to escape his nightly torture via washboarding, physical abuse, and/or total sensory deprivation?
